TuneUp Tip #3: Setting Genre Preferences

Yup, it’s another installment of those ever-so-helpful TuneUp Tips!

This time - we’re looking at GENRES! If you check out Preferences (either by right-clicking within the app on a Mac, or right-clicking on the TuneUp icon in the system tray for PC) you will find multiple customization options for the way TuneUp saves information, including genre-tagging specifications. If you do not want TuneUp to save any of the genre data we find within our database then simply uncheck the box “Genres” under “Save Metadata Defaults” section which is in the “Clean” tab of Preferences.

There is also a cool functionality that allows you to filter down the number of different genres that TuneUp tags for. There are currently 3 Genre Levels. Level 1 is the smallest with 20 Genres, Level 2 is 250 Genres, and Level 3 is the max with 764 Genres.

For an example of some of the genre options you can see a list within iTunes by going to ‘File’ > ‘Get Info’ > select ‘Info’ tab > and scroll through the ‘Genre’ options. These are tags that iTunes already has stored for your genres already. The higher the level, the more detailed your genres will become once TuneUp cleans them. Of course, you can always option out of setting genres all together, or simply enter them in yourself.

Remember to SAVE all changes you make within Preferences so TuneUp can clean up the way you want!
