Symptom:
'404 Error' appears when starting TuneUp Companion - PC and Mac versions

Cause:
Some user-installed software (such as NetSetter) or firewalls (such as TrendMicro) change information that TuneUp uses to create your user interface. TuneUp gets treated as a browser by this software, and because this software changes the requests that TuneUp Companion makes, those requests get stopped at our server.

Workaround:
Configure the software to allow TuneUp to communicate without interference. Some packages may be spying on port 80 traffic, it may be best to remove those that are.

Try seeing if your protection software has the ability for you to "whitelist" certain applications. If so, make sure to add TuneUp to the list.

Note that TuneUp's updater is a separate application launched by TuneUp called updater.exe (C:\Program Files\TuneUpMedia\updater\updater.exe if you installed in the default directory). This gets launched everytime TuneUp is launched as it checks for newer version. You must also allow this software to launch.
