I had some mp3's with the wrong cover art in it so I went into the file (through info) and went to the artwork tab and deleted the album. After that, if I would drag the file into Clean, it would find the album cover art and work fine. If it was not the right album, I would go to Cover Art which had the proper album but when I would hit "save", the status bar just hangs and never completes. Can you tell me why this is happening?

What version of TuneUp are you using? There could be various reasons for this. The most common is that the cover art image is in Google's image cache but the actual location is not accessible (either the site is no longer available or requires authentication.
There are also some old bugs that cause this (trying to save a GIF file when the iTunes API only accepts JPG and BMP). To find out specifically, you're best sending an email to the support team with your log file. Regards, The TuneUp Team |

Thanks for the reply. I am using the most recent version of TuneUp that was offered (when I click on update, it says I have the most recent version).
I'm not sure how the imagine can be in a cache from a site when it seems like it is saved to the actual file. You can see it in the "album" section when you go to the info of the mp3. My assumption is that TuneUp Cover Art won't override something in the file even after I went in and deleted the picture. Any other ideas would be helpful. I had sent a note to the support team yesterday but haven't heard back. I was looking to fix this problem ASAP as I leave for a 2 week trip and wanted to update everything before I went. Again, thanks for any help you can provide. Best, Chris23 |

I guess I am not following the issue then. TuneUp indeed does not overwrite/replace any existing cover art. If you can see any existing art in album mode, then I guess the art is not deleted. I am not 100% exactly at what point, iTunes deletes the image from the file.
My only point with the previous message is that there are times when the image appears in TuneUp's user interface (via google's cache) but we are not able to obtain the large, original image to write to the iTunes when you hit save. So, this may cause problems. There are other times (read: bug) when the cover art status bar would hang. For example, if you launch Cover Art, then use Clean on an album, remove its cover art in iTunes and then hit Refresh in Cover Art, TuneUp will create a bogus entry for that album in Cover Art BUT that first entry can't be saved because the Album name has changed. Hope you followed that bit... Regards, The TuneUp Team |

Actually, I think the "bug" you mentioned in your third paragraph is my issue. Is there any way you can give me more detail on that? Was it ever fixed or is there any way around it?
After trying to understand what you wrote and thinking about what I did, I took the song, had it cleaned, then realized it wasn't the right album cover. Went into the song through the info and deleted the album cover and wrote in the correct album name in Itunes. After that, clean would would not recognize the correct album but Cover Art did. The only issue was I went to Cover Art and hit save, and that is when the status bar would just hang. Are we talking about the same thing here? Much appreciation for your help! |

Well, the simple answer to your question is that it's happening because it's a bug...
TuneUp uses the artist/album combination as a key to track individual albums in the Cover Art tab. When you change the name outside of the tab and hit refresh, Cover Art thinks changed album is a new album and can't find the "old" album when trying to save so hangs. We need to fix this by timing out on albums it can't find. You can workaround this by relaunching TuneUp as the list is cleared and recreated every launch. Regards, The TuneUp |
