Symptom:
TuneUp can't launch and pops open a dialogue box saying that TuneUpUpdater.exe can't launch due to a firewall problem Cause: TuneUp's built-in updater checks for an update at launch. If it can't reach our updater server, it doesn't run TuneUp. There are multiple causes for this: - the updater is being blocked by a firewall, anti-virus or anti-spyware application - the updater has a hard time reaching TuneUp's update server and times out. this can happen to users that are geographically far from our server or on slow internet connections. Workaround: Workaround 1 - Unblock TuneUpUpdater.exe Open your anti-virus/anti-spyware program and whitelist TuneUpUpdater.exe Workaround 2 - Point Updater to our CDN for faster download There is a bug in the current version of TuneUp such that it checks for updates at Amazon S3 (the storage service) and not Amazon Cloudfront (the CDN). You can manually change a setting in the updater configuration file (settings.ini) to point the updater to the right location. Settings.ini is located in C:\Program Files\TuneUpMedia\updater (unless the you changed the default location in the installer.) Open the settings.ini file in a text edtor and change as follows: Change: [UPDATEINFO] url=http://updater.mediatuneup.com/update.xml to: [UPDATEINFO] url=http://dvk2ozaytrec6.cloudfront.net/update.xml Cloudfront have edge servers in Hong Kong which should nicely service Australia. Anticipated Fix: V1.59.11 See Also: TuneUp can't dock on Mac/PC and gives Updater warning on PC (with iTunes9) PC: TuneUp V1.5.5 and above won't fully launch (just see icon in taskbar |
